Supply chain efficiencies win. Those mines not directly on a Class 1 railroad cannot make it. They need to pay trucking at origin to get on a rail. Maybe $20 per ton. Maybe a little less now. Those mines that built quick and cheap during peak cannot make it. Their mining costs are high and so is their reject rate, or dumping rate. It’s a volume and logistics game. The biggest producers with quality product with the best rail logistics – direct service, super unit trains and destination terminals close to work to reduce trucking costs – will win. It’s not a collapse from our perspective but an opportunity. – Friend of the Show
